The Angus Gillis Foundation, in consultation with the local communities decided to centralise primary schooling in the rural areas near Grahamstown and built a new school at the cost of R850 000 in 2005. After consultation with communities, the school was built at Fort Brown which was the most central venue. The structure consists of four classrooms, a library, office and an ablution block. This has strengthened education and made a marked difference in the communicty. The Nedbank Foundation contributed to the building of teacher’s accommodation for the school in 2009. The school now boasts a three bed roomed teacher’s house, which has brought significant benefits to the educators. Fort Brown Primary school currently caters for 62 learners from Grade R to Grade 7 and is served by three teachers, an administrative clerk and a cook.
